Sell a project

Bored, tired, demotivated, maybe because of economic problems or maybe you are an ideologist or an inventor. The reason why you want to sell your project does not matter. You have considered it carefully and decided you want to do it.

We understand that in many cases, projects have a very big emotional component, even passionate, and it is normal that you are hesitant to let go of it. You might even think that nobody will pay for it what it is really worth. Leaving sentimentalisms aside, a project is worth what it is worth. While there are many ways to assess its value, many assets which could be very valuable alone may be underused or don’t get the deserved attention. This may be confusing and could lead to a misconception of the real value of the project as a whole.

You want to sell the project and need someone who wants to buy it, so you need this person to be totally convinced that paying what you ask is a good investment, a good purchase. Don’t wait any longer, do a realistic value assessment from a business point of view, as nobody will pay for its emotional value because feelings cannot be bought.

For example, think of your assets, products, your stocks, the investment in research and development necessary to obtain the product, the investment in prototyping, the projection of the product… you might want to move on to other projects but a project with good projection can go very far in the hands of someone with energy and initiative. Think of the trajectory of the project in the market, the prestige achieved…

Think of intellectual property, all the corporative work, the patents, the registered marks, your clients, your list of contacts, suppliers and manufacturers. All these things, all this information cost a lot of work, time and money. It is worth this much because it is already done and it will not have to be done from scratch. It will just need to be adapted or modified to suit who buys it.

It is very common that a project does not have a very big financial value but has enough assets to give it a great projection, and this is why your client wants it. Generally the buyer will outline the worst qualities of your project to offer less money for it, to buy it for cheap. However, in the same way your project is not worth as much as the emotional value it has for you, it is more valuable than they will think. What is the most important in the negotiation is that both sides are satisfied with the transfer deal.
